Mountain View Elementary School in Taylors, South Carolina
Mountain View Elementary School is located at 6350 Mountain View Road, three miles from North Greenville University on Highway 253.
Some 50 teachers, two administrators and a support staff of 14 care for the needs of the 827 students enrolled in grades K-5. Their mission is “to provide a safe, positive environment where children build skills, knowledge, and character needed for lifelong learning.”
Equipped with 51 classrooms, the school boasts five acres of developed playground areas with a beautiful mountain view. Students stay up to date with the latest technology thanks to two state of the art computer labs. Promethean boards – flat panel displays that provide interactive education- make learning fun. A science lab helps students go beyond the books, while a multipurpose gymnasium provides an appropriate spot for physical education and other school programs. The installations even have a TV studio, where the participants produce their own news show.
Mountain View Elementary offers a wide selection of additional programs to keep students involved. Arts receive attention by means of fourth and fifth grade choruses for which the students may audition. A Fussbusters Mentors and Mediators Program helps kids to achieve their full potential. Greater literacy is fostered through the Tiger Club Readers Program and Family Reading Night.
Mountain View has been designated a Red Carpet School multiple times during the past decade and has been recognized as an Everyday Math Model Classroom. In 2006 it won the U.S. Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathemathics.
